London to Nairobi to Mt Kilimanjaro to Zanzibar

Getting upgraded definitely took the sting out of the long flight, my first flight was cancelled so I had to fly out a day early (I’m not complaining) Kenya airways has nothing on the likes of Etihad and Emirates but I got a bed and the food was good. Don’t expect lots of recently released movies or a massive TV screen.

Nairobi airport is umm very dull. Luckily the stop over was only 2 hours. The floor was comfortable enough. From Nairobi I got a flight to Mt Kilimanjaro.

Seeing the mountains from the air is amazing, the clouds lay like a thick blanket with the sharp summits protruding out. Half the plane got off here and they cleared down before we flew the extra 45mins to Zanzibar.

Customs was hectic, you can pay for your visa in dollars or with a card oh and don’t forget your yellow fever cert they check on entry to the arrivals gate. The queues were massive and its hot!

I’m staying at the Ras Nungwi beach hotel. It’s beautiful. Right on the beach, the rooms are small huts with everything you need.

I’m pretty blown away by the food already, after 2 weeks of culinary  fails in South Africa and Mozambique  I didn’t have high hopes but it’s so tasty. I can see why Zanzibar has been given the name spice island.

Ras Nungwi

Snorkelling is best at designated dive sites, the sea is beautifully warm with perfect white sand but by the shore it’s as clear as milk.
